Birthday Party Invitations

Birthday party invitations are a lot of fun to create and there are so many ideas for special ones.

Suppose you wanted to add a little mystery to an adult-based party? Intrigue all your guests with a "Guess who's having a birthday?" birthday party invitation. Color copies of a favorite childhood snapshot on the cover will have your friends wondering who that little boy or girl is, and when they open the invitation to find out, they'll see all necessary information like the name, address for the party, time and date, theme, etc.

For any guests, young or old, a pop-up birthday party invitation can be a lot of fun as well. Just use a delightful card cover showing a large, festive birthday cake, and when you open the card, a bunch of balloons can "pop out" of the cake from a support pasted inside the card, listing all sorts of party information.

A lot of people, depending on the party age, still feel comfortable giving birthday invitations that mesh with a certain theme, like a Disney princess birthday invitation for little girls, or a sports-minded atmosphere for boys. Some birthday invitations require a bit more planning -- for example, if you use specially designed invitations like you'd find at a party center, or blow people away with certified letters they receive in the mail. (This can have a boomerang effect, because like myself, some people don't like to get certified letters.)

I've often thought of doing one of those letter ideas from Publisher's Clearing House, you know, with Ed McMahon on the cover saying I might already be a winner? I could modify that a bit, and say "You may already be a winner" and when the guest opens the invitation, they get a big "Congratulations! You've been invited!" :) Sneaky but effective.

Online birthday invitations sometimes lack the sentiment so if you do go that route, make each invitation seperately. Don't make it look like a form-email you sent to everyone, regardless of friend or relative stature. It seems a little crazy to invite your grandparents to your son's birthday if you just say "You're Invited!" Of course they are! :) Try to be personal with each invitation. If you have a best friend to invite, tell him or her that it's just not the same birthday party without your best friend there, etc.

Whatever style of birthday invitation you decide on, when you design your own, you're setting the stage for the show. The guests are your audience, and they deserve a lot of thought and consideration. The anticipation you create sets the mood for the party right away. People are going to want to attend something that someone puts a little thought into, so make your birthday invitations effective and entertaining, and it'll make for a fantastic birthday party to follow. :)
